New Sneakers!
I just bought a shiny new pair of Blackspot Sneakers.

And I can feel good about buying them because they're made using organic hemp and water retting (no chemicals). The rubber is 70% biodegradable. They're made in Portugal in a factory that pays a decent wage with good benefits and a union.

I just bought a pair of sneakers and I feel great about where they're coming from. I don't feel guilty about exorbitant profits and starvation wages and sweat shops. And I don't have to be an unpaid walking billboard for a shitty corporation.

So they're not New Balance or whatever is "cool" these days. But I think this is way cooler.

Now, they're 57 bucks, so it's not like they're a great deal or anything. A lot of the price goes to Adbuster campaigns and other "Culture Jammer" anticorporation activism stuff. And I'm good with supporting that.

They're converse low-tops. You remember your 80's converses, right? Lol. I won't be running in them, that's for sure. But they're okay for walking.

Everyone here is pretty shocked and apalled with the UT Young Conservative's Capture the Illegal Imigrant Day. What are they saying at UT, just out of curiosity?

I live in my low Converse. I have three pair and I'm hoping to have three more by the end of the year. (Black, pink, blue; hot pink, orange, gray.)

As a rule, I avoid the malls when the weather starts getting nice. It isn't safe. I particularly avoid the Young Conservatives. (The rainbow pin on my bag invites enough preaching.) Capture the Illegal Immigrant Day? This is news to me. We've got 40 Acres Fest coming up, so just the sound of this is quite disturbing. I'll check it out and get back.

Yeah. Some sort of mall protest gone bad. I think there was candy and bake sale type stuff, too. And I think it got thrown back at them.

But I can't remember if it was Texas A&M and UT or if it was just the YCoT and UT abstained or if it was the UTYC... I just know there were two columns about it today and UT was somehow involved. But I could be wrong because I'm sure you'd have heard about it if they were.
