I is well-read.
HAPPY STEPHANIE PLUM DAY! Not that I have the new book or anything. But the point is that I COULD have it if I wanted it! Which I do. Maybe I will go pick it up tomorrow.

This reminds me! I am thinking that maybe I should attend the Harry Potter party at Borders this year instead of B&N. I prefer B&N for book shopping, no question, but their HP party is kind of lacking. What with Borders sponsoring PotterCast and publishing the book of essays about Snape and their Snape: Friend or Foe? marketing campaign, I'm thinking that they might have a better party. Where are you guys going?

And even though the new Princess Diaries book is not nearly out, my sister and I are still already fighting about it. Or more specifically, we are fighting about J.P.'s motivations and intentions. I really wanted Mia and Michael to break up because I am bored of Michael, plus he is too old. But everything about their break up was so stupid, and EVERYONE told Mia she was stupid. Except J.P. who reinforced her stupidness because he has a crush on her. And he did a variety of other things that can be interpreted as a.) sketch or b.) understandably unfortunate behavior by a boy who has a crush on a girl who is dating someone else or (if you are my sister) c.) totally nice.

Do you think it ever bothers Meg Cabot that the vast majority of her work will be rendered completely irrelevant in a very short amount of time thanks to her dependence on pop culture references for humor?

Where are you guys going?

I'll be working the party at my family's store, which is an indie. And now I will take this opportunity to ask that you check Book Sense and see if there are a) any indie bookstores in your area and b) any that are having a Potter party.

/end support your local indie bookstore pitch :D

There are two independent book stores in my area, but alas, I hate them both! And actually they are more used-book stores than book-book stores. They're nice when I am in the mood for some bad paperback mysteries, but otherwise not so much.

Yeah, used bookstores tend to dominate the indie field, because the overhead is so much cheaper. You have a good reason for not going to an indie for book 7, so I will excuse you. *g* However, if it's between B&N and Borders, I recommend B&N. Borders may have the more exciting party, but they are a lot more aggressive than B&N when it comes to stomping on the indies and running them out of town.

Thanks for that link, anyway. I checked to see if I'd somehow missed an independent store nearby, but no cigar. I have no real music stores either. It is to woe!

What are you guys doing for your HP party?

Heh, it's so funny reading the earlier PDs and seeing Lily and Mia list Roswell amongst their interests. Which is a non-answer to your question, but I don't think they'll ever stop being funny even if you lose sight of the references.

As for J.P., I think he is nice and typical, but also recognizes an opportunity when it presents itself. He will certainly NOT be relegated to the Friend Zone since he is making moves right away. I didn't find him to be sketch at all, just not a passive hanger on waiting for a moment.

And Mia/Michael are totally not over. Meg holds tightly to her OTPs even when they are as stupid as Suze/Jesse.

I think I'm suspicious of J.P. because of how he dated and dumped Lilly. The details are fuzzy to me because it's been such a long time since I read it, but I think he also somehow ended up kissing Mia or something? I do not remember! He just seems like a very opportunistic young man to me. But I probably wouldn't be suspicious of him if this wasn't a Meg Cabot book! Meg Cabot's boys are always* so PERFECT.

* Not that I have read every Meg Cabot book or anything. (I do not know this Suze/Jesse of which you speak.) But they are all pretty A+ in the ones I have read.

Suze/Jesse are from the Mediator series. And, yes, Meg Cabot boys do tend to be perfect and geeks. It's her thing.

I'm going to B&N (I think) because that's where my friends are going and we get the book for less there.

are you a ranger or morelli girl?

I like them both, but I think I like Ranger more for Stephanie. Not that I think he'll ever commit or anything, but I think he and Stephanie make a better team and that he's more encouraging and supportive of her.

However, Morelli and Stephanie have a lot of history, so I am kind of assuming that when it is all said and done that they will be together, but hopefully by then he'll have accepted that she is going to keep doing this Bounty Hunter thing whether he likes it or not.

ALTHOUGH. The last handful of books have been really skewed towards Ranger, even when he wasn't present because he was in hiding or something. I feel like he has gotten a lot of development since the beginning of the series, much more than Morelli. SO WHO KNOWS?

I guess this means I am a Babe?

out here, Borders does like nothing. BN is where the party's at. =P and BN is much better organized when it comes to midnight when it actually comes out...last time we went to borders and it was kinda a mess O_O

It probably depends on the store. Here, B&N has done trivia, wand-making, a magic show and pictures with wizard wants/scarves/robes/hats, etc.

But the Borders near us supposedly has done dragon egg hunting, wizarding chess and all sorts of other way cooler things. Plus if there is going to be a Snape: Friend/Foe discussion, I do not want to miss that. Sooo. I don't know. Hey! Maybe I will just reserve our books at both places!

I'll be at Borders since my boyfriend and closest friend's husband work there.

Also I think Meg Cabot is too busy making money by releasing a book every month to care about her work lasting.
