Watching Fannishly
Little Miss Ten Whole Years had off from school today, so I went out with her and my mom to do some shopping. There's a brand new American Girl store at the mall, so we visited this afternoon while most kids were in school to avoid the INSANITY. Mattel has totally raped that company, I swear. I loved seeing lots of little girls running up to the displays and exclaiming in awe, but it kind of hurts my soul. The Pleasant Company used to rock so hard, and now it does not.
I also dodged into the Apple Store and fiddled around with an iPod touch! It was awesome! And I stopped by Whole Foods, and they had blood oranges! They NEVER have them! I can never find them anywhere! So it was a nice day.
Addison's Anatomy
I saw the original cut of the pilot, and I can tell you that they changed two things:
1. The first scene between Richard and Addison was originally shot in Richard's office, and I'm glad that they changed it. It was still a clunky way to reintroduce the cast, but I appreciate that Richard wanted Addison to stay. In the original cut, he was oddly passive, and he didn't argue with Addison at all; he only had two or three lines. I'm glad they re-shot the scene, but I think it obviously had less to do with improving it and more to do with paving the way for Addison to return to SGH in case Private Practice fails. Sort of ominous, huh?
2. Addison's speech in the conference room originally ended with... "I thought I had a big finish! But I don't, so..." And then she sat down and everyone smirked at each other, and then they filtered out one-by-one, with an assortment of lines about how "that was the saddest/most pathetic/etc." thing they'd ever seen. And then Addison asked Naomi what had just happened, and she said "Welcome to Oceanside Wellness!" I liked the new version better, and I have a feeling they changed it because of all of the criticisms Addison's characterization has garnered.
Anyway, Kadee Stickland sucks, as always. She's obviously meant for Sam, but they have zero chemistry. For me, the lowest common denominator is Cooper. I just think he's really, really gross. The part where he asks Addison whether or not it's weird for a woman to ask to be called "mama" during sex was particularly gross, considering that he does not even know Addison! Hellooo, boundaries!
OH, SHOW. YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MADE FOR ME. I do not exactly know WHAT is wrong with it, but I concur with
mardia; there is no "spark". (If this in any way implies that I ever thought Grey's had a "spark," I did not, sry2say. Until Addison Interruptus, I only ever watched Grey's socially. After I started loving Addison, I retroactively hated the rest of the characters less.)
Gossip Girl
Well, this week's episode was not nearly as fun as last week's. In fact, for an episode where a lot of big stuff went down, it was pretty freaking lame.
But, man, that Chuck dude is insane. In just two episodes, he's managed to embody the most cynical and disgusting attitude towards sex that I've ever seen on a teen soap. Observe:
1. He attempts to force himself on an inebriated Serena by threatening to reveal a past indiscretion involving her BFF's boyfriend.
2. He attempts to liquor-up and and physically force himself on a girl he considers to be vulnerable.
3. He has a threesome with two of his father's employees, and we see him hold this over their head.
4. He encourages his friend Blair, who is a virgin, to use sex to distract her boyfriend from Serena and secure their relationship.
5. He sleeps with another one of his father's employees.
IN TWO EPISODES. He is basically a gigantic rapist. (And totally gay for Nate.)
Kristen Bell's commentary continues to be lame and annoying, through no fault of her own. They are using Gossip Girl all wrong. The recap was waaay too long, and her random narration is annoying. They should save Gossip Girl for super-catty opening and closing monologues.
I was pleased that Nate was fractionally less lame; this time he was at least a little interested in getting it on with his girlfriend. (I mean, seriously. How hard is this? You get to sex up your super-hot girlfriend, woe is freaking you.) Anyway, Leighton Meester is not bringing it. She gives good bitchface, but she doesn't make it look easy or fun. I am on Blair's side (she has every right to be a huge bitch, considering the situation), but I wish she'd make it a more fun side to be on! Her scramble to get to Dan and tell him all about Serena's slutty ways was pretty pathetic as far as TV bitchiness goes. Gimme gimme moar, Blair!
My thoughts on Bionic Woman (let me show you them) are here.
I still need to watch DSM. How was it?
