Awesomeness and Hilarity
I watched the Gossip Girl special last night INSTEAD of the State of the Union. It's the first time I haven't watched since I was seventeen. IT WAS AWESOME. (I mean not watching the State of the Union was awesome, not rewatching Gossip Girl. I enjoyed the special, but Maddy was right about the pilot -- it is kind of mediocre.) Less than one year. His last State of the Union ever! Awesomeness.

I was going through my blog roll, and John Mayer wankily bahleeted his entire blog and posted an ambiguous quote and graphic. Why so melodramatic, John? I hope it's temporary because his blog is actually pretty awesome and hilarious. Anyway, it reminded me of what [info]rez_lo always says about stuff like this. "There is no real life, only fandom wank." Or something!

Gnarles Barkley's new single has leaked. I think it's pretty fun.

And, oh my gosh, I totally love this. It's America Ferrera and Amber Tambyln interviewing Hillary Clinton. Like, they filmed it themselves and do terrible dances and talk about not letting the Man get them down. It's completely adorable. (Even if Hillary should take some of her own advice, sigh.)

Disclaimer: And, you know, just to be clear since it's got the Vote Hillary stuff at the end... I am not endorsing Hillary or telling anybody who to vote for. I know people get ill about that. I just think this is so, so cute.

AMBER AND AMERICA!! OMG, that was so cute! And I love that they are hanging out together and campaigning for Hillary together.

Also, I am going to use my first less than three EVER to say: "They want me to get down to my birth weight is the issue in my industry." <3 Amber!

And Hillary Clinton was so cute in that interview. Aw.

I know! It's nice that they are friends. Actually, I've heard that all four of them (from the Pants movies) still hang out and give each other advice and stuff. Blake Lively says that all of them sat her down really made sure that she understood what it means to be the lead actor on an hour-long television show.

And I think this was a very good thing to use your first ever less than three on!

Aw! Now I feel the need to have a Sisterhood icon that would encompass all of this wonderfulness.

That was truly, truly adorable and kind of makes me want to vote Hillary, even though I was an Obama girl until now. O.o

I still haven't totally made up my mind, if that makes you feel any better! I mean. Yeah, I'll probably be voting for Obama, but I really don't feel that strongly about it. I'm fine with either of them. I'd love to see a Hillary/Obama ticket, but I think the past two weeks have sort of ruined any chance of that, dammit.

I never knew John Mayer had a blog. I'd be interested in reading, but now he's gone and flounced. Sad, John Mayer, sad!

John Mayer's songs make me want to hit him in the head with a heavy, blunt object (specifically, I am thinking of "Daughters" and "Waiting on the World to Change"). But I am sad that he deleted his blog because now I won't know if the man was better than his music! No!

Kes feels exactly the same way that you do! Actually, I am a pretty big John Mayer fan, and while I see how those songs could individually offend or annoy, I think in the context of his body of work that they make a lot of sense and are sincere expressions of how he was feeling about a particular thing at a particular point in time. I mean, "Waiting on the World to Change" *is* a clumsy defense of his (and our generation's) political apathy, but on the very same CD, he has another, more explicitly political song called "Belief" that is about the ways in which people's strongly held beliefs get in the way of politics. And I think "Waiting on the World to Change" especially reflects one of the reoccurring themes in his work. This is part of my review of the album from back in '06:
And all of the reasons I love John Mayer's songwriting are still there - he's got this tension in his work that I relate to on a visceral level. He fears getting older, but he's hungry for what's next. He wants to be great, but he wants to be himself more, and there's the very real fear that being real won't be good enough. And then there's the tension between apathy and empathy - between cynicism and the magnitude of feeling you mostly laugh off or make fun of because the only reward for caring seems to be disillusionment. "Waiting on the World To Change" got an unfairly shitty track review over on P4K because the reviewer saw half-assed urgency. I think he wrote something like: "Who needs rebellion when you can have rebelliousness?" I sort of want to shake the guy and say BUT DON'T YOU SEE?! THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT!
This too long and unsolicited! I am sorry! But I can't help but defend his work. *sheepish*

Hahaha, no, it's cool. Your points are definitely taken, especially since you mention the "Belief" track, which I have not heard. His earlier work bothers me less as personal statements and I actually do own a tape cassette of his first (?) album...I think I have such a reaction because some of my good friends FELL IN LOVE with him during college and played his stuff ad nauseam, so even though it's not his fault, I have to take out my annoyance on him XD

I watched part of the State of the Union address.

Then I was sent to my bedroom for being too snarky.

I thought of you.

See, I love that video. I still don't know if I want her to win over Obama at this point, but I adore this video, hee. Amber + America (and yeah, even + Hilary) = an awesome video.

The more of Clinton I see/hear the less I would mind if she beat Obama, even if I am an Obama person.

The best part of the State of the Union was when they did the showing of important people clapping, nodding, looking pissed, and Ted Kennedy apparently sound asleep! He did not change his tie from the afternoon. Obama did. Hillary wore a jacket the color of a tomato and her face looked like she was shitting a brick. It was all very exciting.

Can you tell this was my first State of the Union? :D My roommate wanted to watch it. We haven't had a president I've liked since I was too young to care, so I never got into it..

But now I'm sad I didn't see the Gossip Girl Special. :(

I have no experience with non-Bush State of the Unions, but audience reaction shots are usually the best part. I am sorry to hear the Hillary looked bad! Last year she wore a pretty pink suit and pearls and smirked through the whole thing. I don't know why I remember this, I just do!

Ever since I saw "John Mayer has a TV show" I've always thought he was hilarious. Some of his stuff sounds kind of douchey in print, but he is seriously hilarious <3
