Woe Is Me
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are on hiatus now? Just as soon as they'd finally gotten their writers back?! I get that this probably has something to do with Jon's Oscar gig, but seriously?! Without Jon and Stephen, there is LITERALLY NO NEW TELEVISION WHATSOEVER for me to watch. The tearing of hair, the rending of garments... yeah, it's happening.

I mean, okay, there is American Idol. But I totally hate American Idol! So that doesn't count.

I am thinking now would be a good time to check out one of the shows that I have been vaguely interested in watching, only I am sort of unmotivated to do so.

another show that I will tell you about in the comments

I watched the debate tonight, which was generally a pretty boring time. But this statement from Hillary at the very end was totally surreal. It really feels like the writing is on the wall, and it seems like she knows it. It makes me really sad. If/when she concedes, I will probably cry a lot. It is kind of weird how even though I voted for Obama and everything, I am way more emotionally engaged in Hillary's candidacy. I wouldn't have expected that would be the case, back when this all started.

I love Skins but it is total trash, so I vote for Life instead. But I should say that the rest of my family loveslovesloves Bones.

I would like to add that I do, in fact, lovelovelove Skins, but in a way that I am terribly embarrassed and kind of angry at myself for feeling that way. I feel like I should have better standards for myself. It doesn't even have any of the redeeming qualities of, for example, Rome.

Except for Jal, whom I do actually think is a good character and would be on any TV show.

The actual answer: Sarah Connor Chronicles PLUS Life. WIN.

(Doesn't matter that you've never seen the movies. If you want a quick rundown of the backstory, see the Wikipedia entry for Sarah Connor. (I highly recommend Terminator 2 regardless. Linda Hamilton is THE SUM TOTAL OF AWESOME.

Oh, I vote for Life, totally. V. smart show, and--which is really refreshing--it's consistent emotionally, which is so nice to see for once. And the thirteen episodes, unlike a lot of shows this season, which did feel cut off, really feel like an entire arc on their own, y'know? I haven't written much about it on my LJ, but I started watching it and was pretty much immediately hooked. The lead is just phenomenal and they never lose sight of the fact that as a guy who was in jail for twelve years for something he didn't do, got put through the wringer emotionally and physically (the backstory there is just brutal) dude is going to have some issues.

And I also feel really bad for Hilary! It's like, I voted for Obama as well, at least in part because I really did not like the idea of two families having run the country for twenty years--it's a Presidency, not a dynasty--I didn't have a problem with her, and I was really surprised by how many people did. Like, wtf? I thought it was a shame, honestly, and I would really, really love an Obama/Clinton ticket. That would make my year.

The Terminator movies sucked anyway.

The new show, however, has attracted a nice, smart fandom, which has to say something to its quality!

Skins is my favorite show right now, and basically the only thing I make an effort to watch.

But it is sort of trashy in a lovable way.

BONES! Bones Bones Bones! This is one show on network TV I actually like. It's witty and creative and the science doesn't make me cringe! If you can stomach Angel for an hour, totally check this one out. Emily Deschanel is AWESOME.

I seriously wanted to vote for all of the shows on your poll. But I went with Life, and SCC would be my second choice. But all of those shows are awesome in a variety of ways. :D

You can follow the Terminator show without having seen the movies. It's pretty clear what the premise is because SC tells you in her opening VO every week in lieu of a theme song.

I voted for Bones but it was a hard choice between that & the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Bones is awesomecakes but there is a fair bit to catch up on. The Terminator show just started so you would only need to watch a handful of eps to be up-to-date.

And they are the only two on your list that I've watched so I'm definitely biased in favour of either of them. :D

I'm completely in denial about Hillary's chances. I want her to win, dammit!

I voted for Bones, because there's a full-size replica of my least favorite lecture hall in it!

And because I've never seen any of the other shows.

I want The Office back NOW.

But I've been watching a lot of Monk and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. I watch mostly the USA network these days.

Skins should be watched by everyone. The first season is 9 episodes long and can be watched in a day - which I did. Love that show.

I'm told Mad Men is amazing, and I want to see it, but I haven't caught it yet either.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (which I still can't say out loud without messing it up) is slowing becoming awesome. I highly recommend catching up on the movies as well. The first one is okay, the second one is amazing, and the one is iffy. The new series basically rewrites the show from the second movie. And with more time travel!
