Cheaters Never Prosper
I was supposed to go see the Hannah Montana concert (at the movies; I'm pretty sure you have to kill someone to get tickets to the real deal) last night with two of my sisters, but I gave up my ticket so one of Kierra's little friends could tag along instead. I was real broken up about it, obviously.

Instead, I went to see 27 Dresses with my mom. I thought it was pretty lame. I mean, you expect romantic comedies to be lame, but it had very few redeeming qualities. Katie Heigl and James Marsden are both cute and talented, and they did what they could, but it was not enough to make this memorable. At least it wasn't totally offensive? It was even vaguely empowering in a half-assed kind of way. So that's something.

And all I have to say about the Super Bowl is El Oh El. (I am sorry for [info]theblackrainbow, though.) But, hey, wasn't Paula Abdul supposed to perform? Did I make that up in my head? OH, and didn't it totally look like Jordin Sparks lip-synced her way through the national anthem? That is so wrong!

Bowl Games
Back! A little earlier than planned, but people got sick, so it's all good. Alas, I am running on four hours of sleep and the drive was forever, and I am so exhausted that I can't even stay awake to watch UGA teach Hawaii which conference they belong in. (Yeah, I know. I am super mean. It will totally serve me right if I wake up tomorrow and they trounced us 124324 to 17.)

I was supposed to watch it with my dad in high definition on his brand new billion inch plasma TV, but ALAS I am too tired. And when I woke up it was 17-3, then we intercepted, and I actually felt vaguely sorry for Hawaii, so WHATEVER, I am just going to bed. Stupid BCS.

And my dad was watching it with the sound off! He could have kicked me off the couch at any time! Oh, my poor dad. And most of the time he is banished to his room to watch football. Sometimes I think it is a little sad that one of us was not a boy.

I HATE THE BCS.
I do not understand how we got stuck with the shitty bowl game. OSU jumps four places ONLY because they didn't play the past two weeks. That is literally all they did to go from being #5 to #1. And yet Georgia falls a place to #5 and gets stuck playing #10 Hawaii?!

Hawaii talks a pretty big game for a team whose only ranked opponent was #19 Boise State. I mean, seriously. I was expecting an awesome bowl game. We were #4! We are still #4 in the coaches' poll! I am completely bummed out.

This it is such a lose-lose situation for us! If we beat Hawaii, it's no big deal because it's Hawaii. But if we somehow botch it up and lose, we will be the laughingstock of the nation.

Urgh. What a huge disappointment.

Monday Miscellaney
1. Almost every time I watch Pirates of the Caribbean, I end up having a conversation about whether or not Jack and Will's stunt with the overturned boat would have worked. Anyone who has ever owned pool toys knows that trying to drag a noodle or a boogie board (or anything intended to float) underwater is very tough to do, and it seems like it would be impossible to hold an air-filled boat under the water, unless you were in possession of super human strength. I'd thought maybe the weight of a wooden boat would help keep it submerged, but I've never been convinced that it was actually possible. IT BOTHERS ME, OKAY. So I was thrilled to see that Mythbusters is doing an episode on PotC during which they will put this trick to the test. Wednesday at 9:00!

2. I feel very strongly that if you are in a band and your band fails at enunciation, then you have an OBLIGATION to print your lyrics in the liner notes. If your label won't spring for more than four pages, or if you are a pretentious asshat who prefers cryptic artwork or elaborate photo shoots, then you should at least have the courtesy to post your lyrics at your website. In an obvious place and labeled properly! I do not want to have to poke all over your stupid webspace to find them because you are too creative to have an intuitive site. GOD. Why do I even buy music?

3. One of my sisters loves the Jonas Brothers, and it is not who you would think. Little Miss Ten Whole Years actually calls them the Bogus Brothers -- and she claims to have made that up herself which, frankly, makes me proud. Heather is the fan, and she has been inflicting them on the rest of us all weekend. Surprisingly, I think they are kind of cute and do not mind them at all. I keep catching myself humming "Hold On."

4. I did manage to see Enchanted, so go me. It was so overwhelmingly sweet that I sort of felt as if I should go eat a lemon or seventy afterwards, but it was a fun time at the movies. It is very much a homage to the Disney Princess classics, so if you like those I would definitely recommend it.

5. I watched some of the Planet Earth encore with my sister tonight and got a little weepy during several parts. We have such a beautiful planet, you guys! But I am kinda disappointed with Fearless Earth. It is very... melodramatic.

6. I find it difficult to comprehend that Japan is going to kill 50 Humpback Whales from the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Can you imagine going into a restaurant and being all like, "I WILL HAVE THE HUMPBACK WHALE. MEDIUM RARE, PLZ." You must have to be a SERIOUS DOUCHEBAG. I assume it is a conspicuously expensive meal, which makes it even grosser. According to this article linked by [info]gelxgel, the Japanese government is actually spending millions of dollars to promote the consumption of whale meat, which has waned in popularity over the past few decades. How messed up is that! I also read that whale (and dolphin) meat is particularly high in mercury and other toxins. So it makes even less sense to me than it did before. JAPAN MUST BE STOPPED, YOU GUYS. Somebody call Hayden Panettiere!

7. Blake Lively is awesome in this clip from The View. She addresses a rumor that she and Leighton aren't getting along, and instead of just denying it, she points out how sexist the rumor is and that none of her male costars have had to deal with articles speculating about their professional relationships. FTW!

8. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE SEC, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN. Tennessee won in their fourth overtime, which was hard to stomach since it means that Georgia's season is basically over, aside from whichever probably awesome bowl game we will get. And watching the LSU/Arkansas game was SO CRAZY. On the one hand, Arkansas winning was a fun upset, and I do enjoy seeing grown men cry. But LSU is >>> OSU and Kansas and probably Missouri, so it is sad that they will not get to play for the championship. But that is always the way! The SEC eats its own and then watches other teams play for the glory. (Admittedly, we were not as fantastic as usual this year, but neither was anyone else, so.)

9. I am really, really hoping the the WGA strike will end this week. Talks resume today, and everyone sounds hopeful, so fingers crossed. In the meantime, go watch the best video to come out of the strike so far: hungVP158 gives us the AMPTP's perspective on the issues. God, I miss The Colbert Report.

Is it weird that I'm really suspicious of the HPV vaccine? When I first saw the constant PSA-ish commercials about how "cancer can be caused by a virus?!", I was skeptical because it didn't say who was paying for them, and why would anyone do that for free? I looked it up and found out Merck, a pharmaceutial company, was responsible for the ads. Six or seven months down the line, they started playing slightly different commercials touting their vaccine. And now the Governer of freaking TEXAS is requiring that middle school girls receive the vaccine and comparing HPV to polio?

I have no proof, no facts, no nothing, but this all stinks to me. I mean, I'm sure HPV is bad and everything, but I want to know more about Merck's role in all of this. Is this something little girls really ought to be vaccinated for, or is this just some bullshit hysteria like the Bird Flu stuff?

Anyway, it was cool to see Tony Dungy win the Super Bowl. I was always pissed off about how Tampa kicked him to the curb and then that new guy won the following year with the defense Dungy built. Plus the Dungys have had a shitty past two years, so this is good for them.

REALLY?!
So everyone in Atlanta is like, FIRE MICHAEL VICK BEFORE HE EMBARRASSES US SOME MORE. Hookers, herpes, weed?! I mean, if he wants us to turn a blind eye to the tawdry hijinks, he at least needs to take us to the playoffs. He's getting paid 100 GIGAZILLION DOLLARS to kick ass. If he's not going to do that, he can at least avoid getting his ass kicked in the media.

But I don't want him to be fired. I have a Michael Vick jersey that I have not felt comfortable wearing in some time. If he gets fired, then I definitely will not be able to ever wear it again, and that would suck. It was expensive! So I think we should all just laugh at him instead. Because, really, it is all very, very funny.

Of course, it would be even funnier if we were in the playoffs. :(

The Big Ten is dead to me.
This is why I only watch SEC football.

GOD, this KILLS me. Almost every year there is a one-loss (or sometimes even a no-loss) SEC team that gets shunted aside so USC can play Bumfuck State College for the national championship. And this year an SEC team finally makes it, and it has to be the freaking Gators. And what really kills me is that they're not even that good! I watched almost all of their games, and they were some of the most unspectacular games of the season. The SEC wasn't even that good this year! And Miami and FSU blew! And half of the time they only won their games by the grace of God! The friggin' Gamecocks almost knocked them out of contention!

Worst. Season. Ever.

Florida vs. OSU?
WHAAAAAT? FUCK THAT SHIT.

Stupid Florida.

ETA: HOWEVER! I am glad that people are acknowledging that it's a goddamn helluva lot harder to stay unbeaten in the SEC than it is anywhere else. I am still pissed off about USC getting picked over Auburn two years back.

ETA2: My dad says that OSU is going to crush Florida like whoa.

ETA3: In all the excitement, I forgot to say that Georgia got the Chic-Fil-A bowl! That's pretty good, for the season we had.

UCLA FOR THE WIN!!! *worships* EXCUSE ME WHILE I BASK IN THE AWESOMENESS OF USC LOSING LIKE THE LOSERS THEY ARE.

So. Michigan and OSU? Or Florida and OSU? Michigan/OSU sounds like fun, but as much as I despise Florida and think they're totally overrated, SEC kicks Big 10's ass. But, eh. It's Florida. I vote Michigan. Funny thing -- I have people from each of the schools on my f'list, heh. Not that I think [info]keenai even knows who her quarterback is, but still!

So does anyone know what's up with all of the pregnancy anvils Grey's Anatomy is dropping on Addison's head? It's nothing new, and I'd sort of learned to tune them out. But I've just managed to see the entire episode and they've really started falling again. So was Addison pregnant? Is she pregnant? And how much would you want to kill hypothetical people if it was Derek's?

I am still in a bad mood about USC winning. But, in better news, the SEC kicked some serious ACC ass, and that's good. And Georgia beat Georgia Tech, which I sort of care about but not that much. I like Georgia Tech, too. I don't know what the hell is Tech's problem that they hate us so much. Talk about chips on shoulders.

POST OF HATE
I hate USC. I just hate them so so so goddamn much. I cannot believe I'm going to have to watch their five billionth BCS title game in a row. UGH. I really wanted it to be Arkansas or Michigan. OSU better kick their ass for all of us teams in real conferences. Real in the loosest sense of the word. Jesus.

Also, Happy Feet was on the lame side of mediocre.

Hallefuckinglujah.
I watched HBO Sport's documentary on the women's soccer team, and it was so awesome that I thought I should try to get into soccer again. And then I remembered how freaking boring the World Cup matches that I attempted to watch were, so screw that. But still! Those ladies kicked a lot of ass.

I don't even want to talk about football. Jesus. I don't blame Matt Stafford, though. He's going to be really good, but the offense plays like they have zero confidence, and they've fallen apart more and more every week.

Why, Georgia, why?

*weeps*
Shockley hurt his knee. Against Arkansas. The weekend before the GA-FL game.

(DJ Shockley is our quarterback.)

This is horrible.

ETA: We won. Barely. Next week, the real football begins, and I hope to God that Shockley will be able to play. We have a lot of players down. This is always what happens to us; we can't stay healthy. But that's what you get when you play in the SEC, I guess

ETA: Shockley is out for two weeks. Which means we're going to get rolled by Florida and our season is officially over.

American Football
Did y'all watch some football today? Because I sure as hell saw some football today. Jesus. What a game! I am guessing [info]q_sama is crestfallen and [info]bactaqueen is totally ecstatic. I rooted for you both, though! I was sort of surprised about OSU's Vince Young comments, but Texas always did talk some trash, so hey. What comes around...

And Georgia beat Steve Spurrier, so it's all good in my part of the world tonight. I am thinking we will be number 5 or 6 now and Texas will be number 1 or 2. WE ARE COMING FOR YOU, [info]bactaqueen!!!

AP Top 10
1. USC
2. Texas
3. Michigan
4. Ohio State
5. LSU
6. Tennessee
7. Virginia Tech
8. Iowa
9. Georgia
10. Florida

I sort of resent these rankings because all of the teams in the Top 10 except Georgia played unranked, bitch-ass season openers. I mean, Tennessee almost *lost* to UAB, and LSU didn't even play (though I guess we can cut them some slack.) However, we moved up 5 spots, which is a lot. So it's all good. I'm thinking the SEC this season is going to be a bit tamer than usual, what with all these new coaches, quarterbacks and offensive lines. Plus we're not playing 'Bama or LSU this year. But none of the other Top 10's schedules look any harder than ours, so we should be okay.

[info]bactaqueen uploaded a few Stabbing Westward songs for me last week, and to my utter surprise, I actually really like them. (I don't listen to much 90's alternative; I'm more into alterna-pop.) They *really* remind me of another band, too. But I can't think of who it is! I hate that.

I have so much tedious school work to do. So I'm going to go do it and stop bumming around LJ for reals.

Guh.
Football fucking sucked. I think just about my entire slate lost, except Georgia and Tennessee. And then all my political anti-picks pulled through. Meaning Texas Tech, UT, FSU and Ohio State all won thier bowl games, and a big Boo Hiss to all of them.

But it's all good as long as USC chokes and dies on Tuesday Oklahoma wins. Because Auburn totally should have been in that game. It's freaking nuts the way the BCS works. The only tough game USC played was against Cal, and even they're no big deal.

Bah. What a disappointing end to a disappointing season. But whatever. The SEC is gonna kick some major ass this year. Because we're just way more awesome.

On the other hand... Michael Vick could salve my wounds with a steady run in the playoffs. Hell, let's dream big; I want the Falcons to win The Bowl That Is Super, and then this season will be shiny.
