HA! DONE!

Also, if you have somehow not heard about the Open Source Boob Project, then you should not go here. But I feel that I should at least say SOMETHING about it, because it really really really sucks and is one of the worst, most misogynistic things I have ever had the misfortune to come across in fandom. I'm mostly stupefied as to how anybody can think that's okay. And I am really sad to see so many women say they don't see what the big deal is. Sadface!

In more cheerful news, did you see Thomas Dekker's new look? DUDE, HE IS SO TOTALLY HARDCORE!!! I sent that to one of my sisters last night, and I am pretty sure she cried. (She was very devoted to his bangs.)

Meme Me!
Okay, this is awesome. You know NaNoWriMo, in which thousands of amateur writers attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in one month? Amateur musicians have the same thing! It's called the RPM Challenge, and over 2,000 artists with varying levels of experience wrote and recorded albums in February! I heard about it when one of the songs from an RPM Challenge album made it's way onto a new release podcast I listen to pretty regularly.

I also watched the Legion of Super Heroes (or something) finale with my littlest sister. It's SO INFERIOR to Teen Titans, but it is endlessly entertaining because there is TOTALLY PURPOSEFUL slash happening between Superman and Brainiac 5. You guys know that I do not exaggerate about slashiness! For instance! The Legion is set in the future, and when Superman had to go back to the past, Brainiac 5 missed him so much that he went into the simulator training facility he invented and did a program where he and Superman are fighting baddies together. And when simulation!Superman saved him, he enjoyed being in Superman's arms. He was all like, "Oh, Superman! You saved me!" I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. Everything about their relationship is completely shippy and adorable.

This week, with the Top 5 meme making the rounds again, I realized that I have NEVER done a Top 5 meme in the history of my journal! Never!

So! Fannish Top 5's. Go!

iPod Roulette
I am buying some R&Bish hip hop on iTunes, because it's that time of year. And I took one listen to the explicit preview of the song AND BOUGHT THE CLEANED UP KIDDIE VERSION. When did I turn old? Lameness!

My favorite radio show just added a new segment called iPod Roulette. They take a guest's iPod, put it on shuffle, and play three songs. And then the guest talks about each song, no matter how random or embarrassing! So I wanted to give it a try.

iPod Roulette )

I heard Helo from BSG has been cast on Dollhouse. Which, ha, does not bode well for me watching the show. Not that Tahmoh isn't hot and everything, but I hate Helo and think Tahmoh is at least partly to blame. A better actor might have been able to pull off Helo without making his moral! virtue! come off as insufferable prickitude. Tahmoh is not a better actor. Also, it's not exactly like he raised the level on Smallville or Need for Speed: Most Wanted. /snideness

Monday Miscellaney
1. I saw August Rush this weekend, and it was an exceedingly melodramatic and silly piece of fluff. But the kid genius's ability to hear music in everything, along with the soundtrack's use of urban sounds, reminded me of a composer I studied in a music class I took for humanities credit. He sampled everyday sounds from the city (car doors slamming, people yelling, sirens, etc.) and used them in his compositions. Does anybody know who I'm talking about? I believe he was fairly well-known.

2. I enjoyed taking everyone's shipping polls, but I had some difficulty deciding which ships I actually ship. To me, shipping is a verb. I remember this one time when [info]carla_scribbles told a friend that the Lee/Kara shipper she had on her f'list wasn't too crazy, and I was all like: "Are you talking about me?!" Because I had never considered myself a Lee/Kara shipper! Ever since then, I have felt confused about the semantics of shipping. )

3. Figure Skating! )

4. OTW is open for membership. I have joined. I think it's an interesting and worthwhile project, and I hope it will be successful.

The Truth is More of a Stranger Than Fiction, Which Life Imitates
+ Remember when Jon Stewart had Ishmael Beah, who wrote a memoir about being a boy soldier in Sierra Leone, on The Daily Show? And Beah went on to sell hundreds of thousands of books and become a spokesperson for UNICEF? Well, now allegations have surfaced that he embellished his autobiography, James Frey style. I can't help feeling like I've seen this episode of television before.

+ The final Democratic debate was truly excellent last night, but all the cutaways to celebrities were distracting and unnecessary. When they caught Josh Lyman on camera, for two seconds I actually wondered which candidate he was working for.

+ Look at mailers the Obama campaign is sending out! They are just like the notorious "Harry and Louise" ads that targeted Hillary back in the 90s. (I'm also not a huge fan of his Committed Christian mailers, but at least I understand why he's sending those out. He said himself last night that his healthcare package is 95% similar to Hillary's, and these mailers are unfair and unhelpful.) So, you know, a politician is a politician, and it's not just the Clintons who play games. I would appreciate less sanctimony is all I am saying.

+ The Nation has posted a pretty persuasive case for Obama's nomination, from a liberal perspective.

+ The newest Gallup poll says Obama and Clinton are separated by a mere three points nationally. DailyKos says we might not know who our nominee is until as late as March 4th. This had better be the ONLY close part of this presidential election, you guys.

Snow!
It snowed yesterday, and not just flurries! That's the first time in three years! We actually got about two plus inches, which means that everything in town is slow or shut down. Which is the best thing about snow!

But you know what always surprises me about snow? How WET it is! I grew up in Florida and did not experience snow until I was sixteen. I did not expect it to be so wet! I mean, it *is* precipitation. I knew this! But it did not look wet in the movies! Maybe I am just getting the short end of the stick --even when it snows here, it's just barely below freezing. Maybe our snow is the slushy, wet kind? One day I would like to see fluffy, powdery snow, and maybe that will be... less wet? Feel free to disillusion me, northerners. I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LIKE TO DO THAT.

How much did I enjoy Jon Stewart's insane interview with Jonah Goldberg last night? Jonah has always been one of my least favorite commentators. He's the "journalist" who made assy insinuations about Al Gore without doing his homework, was immediately proven wrong by the most basic research, and had neither the grace nor the integrity to apologize and issue a correction. And then there was that time he flew over ANWR to "prove" that it was desolate, lifeless wasteland. He is entirely ridiculous, and I enjoyed seeing him be made a fool of.

And how psyched was I to see this meme making the rounds again? I haven't done it since, like, 2004. There used to be a Mac version, but the site that hosted it disappeared, and I'd basically given up hope of ever being able to do this one again.

Monday Miscellany
Chuck was so completely A+ tonight that I don't even know what to say about it, aside from complimenting its awesomeness. On a shallow note, Adam Baldwin looked really, really fantastic.

And wow, the voice post meme has gone positively viral! I counted at least fifteen on a quick scroll-through, so I haven't even had a chance to listen to all of them yet! But it's been really nifty to hear everybody's voices. As far as my voice post goes, I am pretty surprised that most people seem to think I have a bit of a southern accent, because mostly I just think I sound like a preppy schoolgirl. As evidenced by the rampant disbelief, it definitely doesn't fit my personality, so I am hoping I will grow out of it soon, yeesh.

And then [info]stepliana posted a poll about that old "Miss Suzie had a steamboat..." rhyme. And while I did know that rhyme, I finally remembered that we did a similar one to the same tune, much more often:

Miss Suzie had a baby
His name was Tiny Tim
She put him in the bathtub
To see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
But it wouldn't go down his throat
Miss Suzie called the doctor
Miss Suzie called the nurse
Miss Suzie called the lady with the alligator purse

So I guess maybe that's why I was so sure it was "alligator bra." But it's entirely possible that our seven year-old selves didn't understand 40 acre or 80 meter bra and just changed it to alligator, too. They sound vaguely similar. 40 acre, alligator... It could happen!

JAMES SPADER!
Comment here and I will reply to you and tell you what icon of yours I associate with you. Once I reply, please repost this in your own journal, because I want to know what icon you associate with me.

So today I managed to deviously subvert the iTunes Music Store and download the Gossip Girl pilot for free, even though they weirdly took it down within a few hours of posting it. And, ha, I totally liked it. Carrie Bishop from Veronica Mars is in it! And also Penn Bagdley, who I have a possibly illegal crush on. Three weeks ago I said that I'd probably drop Chuck, Gossip Girl and Moonlighting like hot potatoes. Now that I will totally be watching Chuck and Gossip Girl (YES, I HATE MYSELF!), it would be kind of hilarious if I end up loving Moonlight.

Correction: My sister watched Private Practice's first episode and liked it a lot, even though she'd already been subjected to an earful by me. And then I watched again, and really, it is fine. I mean, it is not super bad or anything. I think I just expected... I have no idea what exactly. More Addison? She was really not in it as much as I expected her to be! I don't know. I think I just do not particularly like any of the supporting characters. Which is okay. After all, I watched Grey's Anatomy with my roommates back in the day and hated everyone until Addison showed up and was awesome. It will be like old times!

I am eagerly awaiting the VM fandom explosion about how Kristen Bell wasn't smiling widely enough at the Emmys. THAT BITCH! Probably she bathed in Jason Dohring's tears before the show.

Memeage
In light of LJ's escalating asinineness (asininity? assininity?) [info]boundaid is trying to get a super cute last-will-and-testament meme off the ground.

So if you go leave your name, I will try to think of something to leave you. And you can leave me something! Because so far I have only been left Ron/Draco fic! Which will be useful if there is a deep freeze and I need to start a fire, but otherwise...

When the Stars Go Blue
+ The people at Gilmore Girls have clearly been watching too much Grey's Anatomy. This show is ridiculously boring when there's no Emily; I basically spent forty-four minutes asking myself why the heck I'm still watching this.

+ One Tree Hill has the power to make me violently hate just about anything it's touched (i.e. Michael Trucco), and that includes Blake. Also, Chris Richardson is ridiculous. He's singing through his nose on purpose? That explains SO MUCH.

+ Kristen Bell is slated to be Jason Segel's (Marshall from How I Met Your Mother) love interest in a movie he wrote himself. That ought to be a fun bit of fannish overlap for [info]xfunkydoryx.

+ My thirteen year-old cousin had a hysterectomy today, after years of health problems caused by a very rare birth defect. This is after years of misdiagnoses and severe, chronic pain and failed surgeries and false hopes and FANTASTIC insurance companies, I'm sure you can imagine. HMOs are really FANTASTIC people. If only real life medicine was as shiny as it is on House and Grey's.

+ And that shipping meme, stolen from lots of people...

Six Ships I Like
1. Gaius/Six (BSG)
2. Trixie/Honey (Trixie Belden)
3. Ron/Hermione (HP)
4. Katara/Aang (Avatar)
5. Deb/Keith (OTH)
6. Jaina/Kyp (SWEU)

Three Ships I Used To Like But Don't Anymore
7. Sharon/Helo (BSG)
8. Grissom/Sara (CSI)
9. Logan/Veronica (VM)

Three Ships I Don't Like
10. Michael/Sara (Prison Break)
11. Keladry/Dom (Tamora Pierce)
12. Harry/Hermione (HP)

Two Ships I'm Curious About But Don't Actually Ship
13. Alex/Addison (Grey's)

P.S. Has anyone else been watching the Discovery Channel's Planet Earth miniseries? It reminds me of watching Wild America when I was a kid, but ten times better; the photography is absolutely stunning. So far the first five episodes have aired, but there's still six to go. And if you want to catch up, I'm sure DC must be airing reruns.

PSA
I went to see Zodiac tonight, and I found it to be incredibly long, often boring and really convoluted. I don't think this is the type of movie most people would want to see in the theatre. It's the kind of movie you're going to want to be able to pause and ask questions about what's going on or what just happened. (And not in a good way.) It was also deceptively marketed; this a "thriller" in the way All the President's Men is a thriller.

But I got to see Mouth tell someone to fuck off and die, and that was amusing. Plus, you know, Mark Ruffalo is not exactly hard on the eyes.

Movie Cap Game
I believe the first person I saw do this meme was [info]very_vogue (or was it [info]isography?), and I've wanted to do it forever. It took me a loong time gather these screencaps, all of which are from a random selection of movies that I own. I was trying to be tricky with the caps, and I thought I was doing alright until I showed them to Kelly and she knew every single one instantly. Sigh.

Anyway, if you want to try your hand at guessing, click here to see the caps without seeing other people's comments.

Fandom Meme
This meme is hilarious because it's a spoof on the ubiquitous anonymous letter memes. Sum up your former/current fandoms in a few sentences, as if they were human beings/very convincing sockpuppets on your flist. Guess which fandom I'm talking about!

This are very melodramatic, silly and unfortunately very easy. Even if you know them all, please just guess a few. All done!

1. Your life has too much drama in it for me. It was fun for awhile, but you were dragging me down, and that's why we hardly ever talk anymore. I've talked a lot of shit about you behind your back lately, and I feel kind of bad about it because we used to be friends. But not that bad. One Tree Hill, [info]keenai

2. You disappeared awhile ago, but I wish I could get a refund of all the time we spent together. You were genuinely a bad person, and I hated how indecisive you were. You thought you were so smart with your pretentious vocabulary and your affected frankness about sex. And you had crummy taste in music, too. You had one redeeming quality, and I think we both know what that was. Dawson's Creek, [info]keenai

3. We don't have that much in common anymore. I've changed a lot, and so have you. But we're old friends, and we probably always will be, even if it's just because we have a lot of the same friends. Tamora Pierce, [info]kitty_ryan

Those stupid memes
I was catching up on my f'list, and [info]prettyveela linked to a Brutally Honest Meme, which I clicked on out of curiosity. And, seriously... One thing I've never liked about the Internets is that the relative anonymity makes people think they can behave however they please without any regard for people's feelings. But there is a person behind every screenname!

I don't know most of the people who participated in the meme. But [info]indilime participated, and someone promptly replied: "I don't know why everyone loves you. Or your icons." Which is not "brutally honest." It's just plain mean.

I really don't know why people participate in these things. Why is negative attention appealing? I've don't even post Be Honest About What You Think Of Me types of memes in my journal because I'd rather not deal with potential fallout. I think there are things that niggle us about everyone we love (and vice versa), but if it's all the same I'd rather not know. I try not to be terribly mean, and I know that I can be pretentious about my taste in music and that I can be obnoxious when encountering opinions that are different from my own, and I'm trying to be better about that.

Anyway. People and their computers should be nicer, I guess, is the point of this post. Brutal honesty is overrated. Especially we're talking about anonymous honesty. Which is basically an oxymoron.
