Okay, everyone should go read this Restaurant Eaters' Ettiquette Guide immediately. Because, really, the rage of your waiter is vastly underestimated. (And as a slight disclaimer, take into account that it was written while the author was irate. There's nothing more annoying than venting on your LJ and then having your f'list argue with you over details, like you meant absolutely everything you said. Context, people! Humor your friends!)

My iBook is dead. I killed it. I finished replacing the hard drive this weekend and I guess I did something wrong, as it's starting up with a big X instead of an apple. And the repair was so complex that it has cowed my spirit. I can't open it up again. Thus, RIP iBook. You were good to me. I loved you. I'm sorry.

I'm going to buy a new computer. And send my iBook off to be repaired by a real technician and then I'll give it to Kelly.

This is tragic.

So I found out via my friends list that Peter Jennings died. Obviously I haven't been watching the news because I didn't even know he was sick. And I'm really sad. I loved Peter Jennings. Besides being awesome, he just had this really great, soothing voice. I've watched him do a lot of good reports, especially on Nightline. But the time I was most grateful for him was the last election.

When I was watching the 2004 election returns, I watched a lot of commentary on the cable news channels. Mostly MSNBC. And as it got later and it became clear that Kerry was probably going to lose, I was completely crushed-- I could not even believe it and I was devasated. Everything depended on Ohio and after Fox called Ohio for Bush, I flipped over to ABC to watch Peter Jennings. And his voice was just so nice and calm, and he wasn't calling Ohio for anyone yet (until they were "absolutely certain"). So when he finally called Ohio for Bush at 1:30am, I went to bed and cried myself to sleep.

But Peter Jennings made it easier, I think. He was insightful and calm and interested and not sensational at all. So, I guess what I'm saying is that if my side has to lose, I'd have watched it lose with Peter Jennings any day. :(
